Each student will first be given an opportunity to participate in a Dive Guardians hosted Discover SCUBA Diving (DSD). The DSD is conducted in the pool only and is designed to introduce the student to diving. After successfully completing the DSD, the student will be scheduled one of our monthly Basic Open Water courses.
Basic Open Water Course
Each student will spend one day in the classroom where they will learn about PTSd and the therapeutic effects of water, the science behind why SCUBA diving works, and an introduction to Guardian Resiliency.
Next, each participant will spend two days with a professional and qualified instructor in the pool in the Confined Water portion of the course. In the pool, the student will learn the basics and required skills to become an Open Water diver.
The student will then spend two days in the ocean in the Open Water portion of the course conducting a total 4 open water dives where each student will truly experience the freedom of SCUBA diving and, ultimately receive a Basic Open Water Diver certification.
This program is designed to be at no cost to the First Responder for the Basic Open Water certification. Dive Guardians will also provide, at no cost to the First Responder, all the rental gear required to complete the course except for the divers “personal gear.” Personal gear consists of Mask, Fins, Snorkel, Booties, and Gloves. These items will need to be purchased by each student prior to the start of the Open Water course. This will further be explained upon completion of the DSD.
However, it doesn’t stop at Basic Open Water. Dive Guardians gives our participants an opportunity to keep diving by offering Re-Dives at various dive sites and dive travel to remote dive destinations. Once a member of the Dive Guardians family, you can be given the opportunity to participate in continuing education such as Advanced Open Water Diver, Rescue Diver and many more. Select participants may also be given the opportunity to become a Dive Master or Open Water SCUBA Instructor. Dive Guardians is an organization that fosters comradery, teamwork, and friendship.
