Though not required, Scuba Diving is best when done with a buddy and we encourage our applicants to choose their buddy to go with them through program. A good buddy team consists of two or more people with an equal and cooperative relationship filled with communication, both in and out of the water. Some responsibilities of a dive buddy include:
• Following an agreed dive plan
• Helping each other get in and out of your dive gear.
• Performing the final buddy check of each other’s equipment setup before the dive to assure that it is complete and in proper working order prior to the dive
• While diving, keeping track of the other buddy and staying together for the entire dive
• Maintaining active communication throughout the dive by hand signals and regular monitoring of each other’s gauges.
• checking that each other is okay with the conditions and progress of the dive via appropriate hand signals
• To assist you buddy in the case of a dive emergency such as entanglement, out of air situations, or rescue assistance for an immobilized or unresponsive buddy.
